Beneficiaries 2010/2011
From health care and education to art, music and suicide prevention,
here are the organizations the Buckaroo Ball Foundation funded
with $112,000 in grants in 2011:
Cooking with Kids, Inc.: 100 children supported with BBFF funds. The program teaches cooking, gardening, nutrition, healthy eating choices and food preparation. It incorporates academic subjects such as math, geography, literacy skills and cultural differences.
Fine Art for Children and Teens (FACT): 37 children. We supported the after-school art program teaching social, emotional and academic success. The program aims to improve critical and creative thinking, literacy, self-confidence, tolerance and positive social behaviors.
Food For Santa Fe, Inc.: 118 children were provided healthy snacks weekly, throughout the year when their parent(s)/guardian received food donations at Food for Santa Fe.
Gerard’s House: 15 children received services including peer counseling and therapeutic activities with others experiencing grief due to the death of a significant person in the child’s life.
Impact Personal Safety: 294 children at-risk due to violence received training in how to set boundaries and avoid violent situations.
New Mexico Suicide Intervention: 18 children at-risk for suicide (50% are poor & 50% have learning disabilities) were provided family therapy, crisis-response and support. Suicide is the second leading cause of death for youth ages 15-24 in New Mexico.
Outside In Productions: 125 youth at-risk due to incarceration received weekly guitar, dance or visual arts classes. They learn creative expression, positive role models and experience stabilityand consistency in their lives, sometimes for the first time ever. This program can be the last chance to reach these kids and change their lives for the better.
Partners In Education: 300 children received enhanced educational experiences. This program gives small grants to teachers in the poorest of the Santa Fe Public schools for educational projects and materials.
Santa Fe Community College ENLACE-AVID Program: 53 youth receive a college preparatory education at the Santa Fe Community College. The goal of the program is to increase the number of Santa Fe students going on to college. The participants receive 160 hours ofinstruction in study skills, college aid and application procedures, academics and tutorials.
Santa Fe Youth Symphony: 13 children were supported in the Mozart y Mariachi program. This is an afterschool music program. Its goals are to increase self-esteem, improve grades/ academics, and reduces risky behaviors.
St. Elizabeth Shelter: Casa Familia - families at risk due to homelessness. 37% of homeless are families – and children under 5 are the fastest-growing homeless group/ Shelter provides intensive case-management and support services.
Villa Therese Catholic Clinic: 250 children were supported, with medical and dental attention, including immunizations and oral health examinations.
Wings for Hope: 400 children supported in a program, a partnership with Wal-Mart, to supply new clothes for the school year.
